Aston Martin has a customisation division called the ‘Q Division’ (you’ll only get this if you’re a James Bond fan) and so far the Q Division has been limited to what seemed like just cosmetic changes to existing models. This time, they’ve got serious – the Vantage GT12 Roadster is proof of that.
One discerning – not to mention affluent – customer wanted what the hardcore Vantage GT3 car offered, but in an open-top version. After cueing the music, Aston Martin’s Q Division has come up with this, the Vantage GT12 Roadster, in nine months of work. All the usual differences with respect to the coupe apply: slightly different suspension settings, etc, but Aston is tight-lipped when it comes to questions about kerb weight or torsional rigidity. There’s quite a few new carbonfibre panels on the body, and the trim and paint is also bespoke.The engine remains the same marvellous 592 bhp V12 as before but the customer opted for the AMT gearbox instead of the seven-speed manual that is now available on Astons.
The Vantage GT12 Roadster will be run up the hill at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend, after which we’re probably only going to see it when it goes up for auction. As for how much it cost; hey, if you’ve got to ask…
