Ahead of the introduction of Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Programme (think of it as NCAP but for the Indian market), car manufacturers are taking steps to improve standard safety features on their products. Volkswagen, which has had a decent record as far as crash-safety goes, has now upped its game even further.

From now onwards, ABS and airbags will be available as part of the standard equipment across Volkswagen India range. The base VW Polo hatchback, Ameo compact saloon, Vento saloon, get dual airbags and ABS. It must also be noted that in prior tests, both the Polo and Vento have scored four (out of five) stars in different versions of NCAP.

Moving up the range, the Beetle gets four airbags and ABS, while both the Jetta and GTI get six airbags and ABS. There are other bits like stability control (ESP), Hill-hold, etc. available depending on the variant.

In case you’re in the market for a new VW, keep in mind that models with updated safety kit have reached dealerships already, according to the company.
