More from Motoring

Call it the effect of the Yaris, Bangalore-based Toyota Kirloskar Motor has registered a domestic sales growth of 20 per cent in May 2018. The company despatched a total of 13940 units, which includes domestic sales of 13113 units and Etios exports of 827 units. For reference, the corresponding figure from May 2017 was 12339.

In total more than 4000 units of the newly launched Toyota Yaris were despatched to the dealers since its launch. Deliveries on the other hand began last month. The car marks Toyota’s entry into the mid-sized saloon segment. While the Etios was clearly the budget offering, the Yaris is positioned to cater to someone who would’ve otherwise opted for cars like the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, etc.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s MD, N Raja said, “We are happy to have achieved a double digit growth of 20% in the domestic sales in the month of May 2018. Along with the segment leading products Fortuner and Innova Crysta, Yaris has been a significant contributor to the overall positive sales growth as compared to the same period last year.  We would like to thank our loyal customers for their relentless support and confidence that they have on Toyota products. This month we officially began the deliveries of Toyota Yaris across all authorised Toyota dealerships in the country on May 18th. Yaris has received overwhelming response from customers nationwide which gives us the confidence that customers have well accepted the value propositions of the product.  In line with our customer first approach, we had started our production last month itself to be able to match our supply to the customer demand and reduce the waiting period as much as possible. By the end of this month 4000plus Yaris were dispatched to the dealerships to meet the customer orders. We would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to the customers who have already booked their Yaris and we will put our best efforts to ensure customers get their deliveries promptly. With the test drives having begun and more customers experiencing the 11 first in segment features, we are sure to see more Toyota Yaris on the Indian roads. We look forward to a positive growth momentum in the domestic sales in the upcoming month and expect good sales volume for our new entry Toyota Yaris.”
