It’s not like Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza needed a motivation to continue with its success story, but if it ever did, here’s one more. The sub-four-metre SUV, launched exactly one year ago, has crossed the 1 lakh sales milestone. That is just a month after the company had announced that it had garnered more than two lakh bookings for the vehicle.

Currently available only in a diesel-powered guise, the Vitara Brezza brought a lot of firsts for MSIL. The first of which was that it happened to be the first car in India to be certified with future crash test norms (including offset and side impact collisions). The second is that it’s offered with an almost-unheard-of customisation scheme (called iCreate) which lets customers choose from about 500 different accessories. The dual-tone exterior also became a popular choice among Brezza buyers.

The car was also christened the Indian Car of the Year, and given its success, it’s hard to imagine why.
