Mahindra’s e2o has grown bigger, gained an additional pair of doors, got some styling updates and is now called the e2o Plus. The Plus therefore is now an proper hatchback, but an all-electric one. Prices for the Plus start from Rs 5.46 lakh for the cheapest P4 trim and goes up three trim levels to P8, which is priced at Rs 8.46 lakh, with all prices being ex-showroom, Delhi. The prices are after factoring in the state subsidy and the incentives under the FAME program.
The Plus is longer, wider and taller than the e2o, with the wheelbase extended by a very generous 300mm to create space for the rear passengers. Mahindra has tried to keep a continuity with the e20 design, with the downward kink in the window-line and the door handles of the rear doors hidden in the C-pillar trim. While you might not be able to fit the luggage for a cross-country jaunt in the 135-litre boot space, it should be enough for a particularly thrifty trip to the supermarket. Styling updates include new LED tail-lamps and a small multi-toothed Mahindra grille up front.
In the e2o, a 48V lithium-ion battery pack used to power a 25 bhp electric motor, giving it a range of 120 km. All the electric powertrain components has been upgraded for the Plus, with a 72V batter pack now powering a 41 bhp electric motor, which translates to a maximum range of 140 km. However, these upgraded components are only for the higher trim P8 variant. The flip side of this is, charging time has gone up, to nine hours. Even though the range has been increased, it e2o Plus comes with the REVive feature too, which adds another 5-10 km of range in the event of batteries being close to draining out.
The e20 Plus is then an for those who looking at a more spacious and practical option to the e20. However, even though the prices are not any different to that of the e2o, it is only the higher variants which come with the upgraded electrical components.
