For an SUV that spends most of its life on the tarmac, a petrol powertrain doesn’t sound like a bad deal. Especially if it exhibits decent road manners, like the BMW X3. Launched earlier with a diesel engine, the new BMW X3 (third-generation model) has now had its model line and appeal widened. BMW India has introduced a 2-litre inline-four turbocharged petrol engine on the X3.

Priced at Rs 56.9 lakh, ex-showroom, the BMW X3 xDrive30i is only available in the Luxury Line design scheme. This includes chrome trim for the exterior, 19-inch alloy wheels, and two-tone underbody protection finished in frozen grey. On the inside it includes wood trim, leather upholstery, etc.

Features standard to the X3 like the Display Key, wireless charging, Welcome Light Carpet, ambient lighting, fully adaptive LED headlamps, LED fog lamps, 10.25-inch touchscreen, automatic tail gate, etc., are included as well.

The 2-litre TwinPower Turbo engine makes 248 bhp and 35.71 kgm. Made to an eight-speed transmission and BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system, it helps the car achieve 100 kph from a standstill in 6.3 seconds (claimed).

BMW Group India’s President, Vikram Pawah said, “The BMW X range is a pioneer in the Sports Activity Vehicle segment. The BMW X3 has been extremely successful as it combines supreme SAV characteristics with comfort and everyday suitability. With the launch of the all-new BMW X3 xDrive30i, now our customers can also experience unadulterated driving pleasure in a refined petrol engine option. With cutting-edge BMW TwinPower Turbo technology is at its core, this engine spells power and performance. The xDrive technology in the BMW X3 ensures unhindered progress, not only when travelling along rutted gravel or sand tracks, over churned-up ground or in deep mud, but also on city roads with high speed bumps.”
