The facelifted BMW 5 Series has been launched in India. It is now longer and sharper. Oh, and it does have a large-ish grille. All that along with the latest tech, starting at Rs 62.90 lakh (ex-showroom) for the 530i M Sport petrol variant.

First things first, the facelifted 5 Series gets a larger grille, restyled bumpers, slimmer LED headlamps and new alloy wheels. Overall, the front has become more aggressive than before, which isn’t a bad thing. Inside, the 5 Series features the BMW Operating System 7.0. That means BMW will finally offer support for wireless Android Auto as opposed to only having Apple CarPlay connectivity! Along with that, it includes 3D Navigation, a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument display, Nappa leather and Dakota leather as options on the diesel trim. This time, however, the base variant has quite a few features as standard. For instance, features like electronic suspension and remote control parking are no more optional. And as far as safety is concerned, it gets six airbags, ABS with brake assist, ISOFIX child seats and a bunch of other tech nannies.

The 5 Series has three engine options on offer: a 249-bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol in the 530i, a 188-bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel in the 520d; and a 261-bhp 3.0-litre in-line diesel in the 530d. All the above engines are paired to an 8-speed torque converter auto ‘box.

Well, is the new 5 Series really the driver’s car in this segment when you pitch it against the likes of the Audi A6, Jaguar XF, Mercedes E-Class and Volvo S90. We’ll soon let you know in our detailed review. Stay tuned!
