Hyundai has unveiled the new-gen Tucson ahead of its launch on the 4th of August, 2022. The design elements are now sharper and sportier. A large front grille dominates the front end with vertically stacked DRLs. This, flanked by the sharp-cut LED headlights, give the front end a bold look. The side of the SUV looks sporty with plenty of sharp lines and creases across the body. Large 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels with 235/60 section tyres complement the body geometry, which nicely fills the squared-out wheel arches. The rear-end is another bold approach by Hyundai with the snake fang-themed LED tail lamps.

The new Tucson will come with a pair of 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines. The naturally aspirated petrol unit develops 154 bhp and 19.5 kgm of torque and gets a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The 2.0-litre diesel produces 184 bhp and 42.4 kgm of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic as standard. The all-wheel drive model also gets terrain modes that adjust the drive to the front and rear wheels as per the requirement.

The Tucson most notably gets Hyundai’s SmartSense ADAS. The system includes forward collision warning and avoidance, blind spot warning and avoidance assist, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning and driver attention warning. Hyundai says that its detection and avoidance systems not only detect other vehicles but also pedestrians and cyclists. Apart from the ADAS tech, the Tucson also comes equipped with 6 airbags, front and rear parking sensors, a blind spot monitor, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control and hill descent control.

It also gets a Bose sound system, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, powered front seats, and 64-colour ambient lighting. The home-to-car function supports commands in both Hindi and English.

The Tucson is one of Hyundai’s popular models and will go up against cars like the Jeep Compass, Volkswagen Tiguan, and Citroen C5 Aircross in India. The premium mid-size SUV debuts Hyundai’s latest parametric design language, an evolution of the carmaker’s ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ theme.
