The previous generation Volvo XC60, a good product in itself, was certainly no match for the new 90-series vehicles. With the new one, Volvo Auto India rewrites the model line’s fate, and while at it, also makes rivals’ lives a little difficult. The all-new Volvo XC60 is launched in India, and is available at Rs 55.9 lakh, ex-showroom.

So what does a little over half a crore get you, you must ask. To start with, the XC60 uses the same platform as the S90, V90, and XC90. All-wheel drive is standard, and the only engine option you get on it is a 2-litre diesel, which makes 232 bhp and 49 kgm. It gets an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and the much-appreciated Power Pulse tech, which virtually minimises turbo lag.

It appears that you can’t really go wrong with Volvos on the looks either, and the XC60 reiterates that. The now-usual bits like the Thor’s Hammer headlamps, Sensus touchscreen inside, Nappa leather and wooden treatment for the dashboard, etc., are all there.

Where it stands out is in the safety department (surprise, surprise; okay, not). There’s a multitude of safety systems, including pedestrian-/cyclist-detection, autonomous braking, etc. And there’s no dearth of driver aids, either, with lane-keeping tech, cruise control, blind spot indication, etc. being a part of the standard equipment.

Four exterior colour choices are complemented by three interior schemes. A 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system, a 9-inch touchscreen Sensus unit, ventilation and massage functionality for the front seats, 4-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, and air suspension are a few of the mentioned features in the Inscription trim (lower trims not announced for the Indian market). And not to forget, there’s an HUD, 360-degree parking camera, power-operated tailgate on the standard equipment list, too.
