Two new Yamahas in two days isn’t Yamaha overload by any means. In fact, it feels great to see the manufacturer widening its reach. The all-new Yamaha R15 (v3.0) was unveiled in Indonesia yesterday, and today, Yamaha Motor India launched a new addition to the FZ line-up in India. It’s called the FZ25, is powered by a 249 cc engine, and is priced at Rs 1.19 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi.
Positioned a tad above the current R15, the FZ25 continues with the slightly tweaked styling of the smaller-capacity FZs, gets added features like LED head- and tail lamps, LCD instrument panel, and disc brakes at both front (282 mm) and rear (220 mm), etc. — although there’s no ABS. The air-cooled 249 cc engine makes 20.6 bhp@8000 rpm and 2.03 kgm,@6000 rpm while the bike, at 148 kilos, isn’t heavy, either. With a claimed average figure of 43 kpl, it’s clear that low weight has helped. And to complement the sharper styling, there are three colour choices: Ballistic Blue, Warrior White, and Knight Black.
The FZ brand has worked well for Yamaha, with more than 1.3 million sales (company data) since the launch in 2008. Almost nine years hence, the FZ25 goes on sale next month.
Although the performance figures aren’t out yet, other noteworthy specifications include a fuel-tank capacity of 14 litres, 100/80-17 tyre up front and a 140/70-17 at the rear, and a minimum ground clearance of 160 mm.
