If you’re a fan of all things electric, this bit of news will have a bittersweet taste to it. Ather has decided to discontinue its first-ever product – the 450. Sales for the electric scooter will stop on 28th November in both Bengaluru and Chennai. This will mark the end of Ather Energy’s phase one plans. However, the next stage will involve the 450X and 450 Plus, both of which are built on 450’s platform, but with improved hardware and software capabilities.

The next phase of Ather’s plan involves focusing on delivering products in new markets – Hyderabad, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Delhi, Kochi, Kozhikode, Coimbatore and Kolkata. The homegrown start-up also plans to set up 135 public fast charging and Ather Grid Points across 11 cities by the end of the year.

If you still have the 450, fret not. Ather will continue to provide new features and upgrades in the coming years for the scooter. In fact, the next OTA update is just around the corner and will carry the Theft and Tow detection feature. Since 2018, the 450 has received 7 OTA updates, some of which featured gems like Eco-mode, Dark theme for the dashboard and guide-me-home lights.

The Ather 450 will be remembered fondly for laying the foundation of what may be a bright future for the company.
